ALLOW USERS TO READ CONTENT YOU DON’T OWN – THE RENTAL MODEL (or SHORT TERM LOAN – STL)
Libraries can make all, or a selection of unowned ebooks available for individual users to rent for a set period of time – 1, 2 or 3 weeks. Rentals can either be paid for by the institution (invoiced by Dawson) or by the end user via an eCommerce facility with instant delivery of the ebook. Users can place a rental request or have immediate access to the ebook depending on the price validation settings made by the administrator. This is performed by clicking the rental icon featured on the title display of the ebook.
Where validation is required, the user fills in a simple on-line form which is then automatically emailed to the administrator.
Where publishers allow rentals the price is based on a % of the list price – an average guide is:-
1 week – 10% of list price
2 weeks – 20% of list price
3 weeks – 40% of list price
• 5 minute preview of un-owned content prior to rental request decision
• Full individual access to the ebook
• Full copy and print permissions
• Seamless interaction – both moderated and un-moderated options.
