We’re asking all our customers to encourage their LMS providers to follow the BIC Library Web Services (API) Industry Policy, creating a standard for the sector.

API’s are the future for data exchange and could help all of us get real time data in a quick and efficient manner to support acquisitions processes and workflows – all for the best outcome for our collective customers – the students!

We have seen how deviation in the standard EDI implementations has caused confusion and frustration for libraries, LMS providers and content suppliers alike. There is an opportunity here to adopt the standard for the benefit of everyone in the industry.

The proposed policy can be read here and if you are happy to endorse it, please send an email to Alaina-Marie@bic.org.uk to confirm your support. In September a page in the CILIP magazine will include the policy and a list of all those who have endorsed it.
